A dream can be wild, flailing, helpless. It can be a crazy notion, an unrealistic thought, a weird twist of what the future could hold. Hope, on the other hand has, at its core, an expectation of fulfillment. Hope is more than a dream: it is a dream infused with spirit, supported by faith, enveloped by gumption, and driven to action. Hope is a motivator.
Our school's theme for the 2014/5 year is dreams, and we are correct to say there is a place for dreaming in our lives. It is what we do with the dreams that matters. Discerning between dreams that are wild and uncontrollable and realistic dreams that can become something greater is a skill that many people do not develop. Many chase dreams show no promise. They chase heartless dreams that injure other people. They chase dreams that lead to no where. All the while, they could turn the right dreams into something greater, something achievable, something more beneficial; they could turn them into hope.
