Readers Theater
Now that we live in the 21st century, we try to foster skills in public demonstration and speaking. Students need to be able to address others in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings.
One way we do this is through readers theater. Readers theater is not acting; it is reading with expression in such a way that the audience can see the scene in their imaginations.
Readers Theater also assists students with their reading fluency. By rereading a text or a script, over and over, the reader can develop a smoother and clearer flow in his/her oral reading.
One excellent source for Readers Theater scripts is Aaron Shepard's Readers Theater page. Other fun scripts can be found on the Fiction Teachers and Poetry Teachers websites.
