Eagle Scout Graduate

I was pleased to be invited to DANIEL's graduation party and Eagle Scout recognition ceremony.  I was even surprised to have been named in the ceremony.  I am the only teacher who taught DANIEL and all three of his siblings as they each passed through the fourth grade, and it was great to be able to reconnect with them, even for just a little while.

GRACE, NICK, and ANNA continue to shine as they grow, and they hold so much promise and potential. They support their older brother in his decision to attend the University of Tulsa in the fall.

Catoosa, Oklahoma:  Blue Whale Video

Here is the first-person video of my encounter with the blue whale on Route 66 of Catoosa, Oklahoma - a bit of nostalgia for the 1960s and 1970s.

Catoosa, Oklahoma:  The Blue Whale on Route 66

6/25/2024

Just outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma, is the town of Catoosa.  It's really easy to pass by without stopping in Catoosa.  Since we were in the area recently, however, we took a swing just off of Interstate 44 to see the famous Route 66 Blue Whale.

The whale is an icon of Route 66 and a symbol of simpler times.  Sitting in a small country pond, the whale is the centerpiece of a bygone swimming hole where kids of all ages enjoyed summer days jumping and sliding out of the whale into the cool water.

Swimming is no longer allowed - an obvious sign that the times have changed.  A fear of litigation is ever-present today, as well as concerns for safety and health.  Oh, for the times when we didn't worry as much about such things.

Prewar Pileup Video

When we happened upon the Prewar Pileup in Catoosa, Oklahoma, I was able to capture this video of the 1930s and 1940s cars in action.  They sounded pretty good to me.

PreWar PileUp

We happened across something special on our journey back from my mother's 80th birthday celebration in Oklahoma.  Stopping outside of Tulsa for a bite to eat, we noticed a jalopy in the parking lot from 1944.  It was a rusty thing - and coincidentally, also 80 years old.

Upon leaving the fast food establishment, we saw other old rust buckets (and I say that in the fondest way) entering the parking lot.  Soon we were discover there was a car show in a park less than three miles away.  We had to go and see what they called a PreWar PileUp.
While my son would be more interested in modern, exotic muscle cars, these were the ones that caught my eye. Interesting was when the Tesla Cyber Truck arrived.  He wasn't part of the show, but had to stop because his own vehicle was making a "funny noise".  I had to get this last picture, which I call Great Grandson Looking at the Old Folks at the Family Reunion.
