One of the first things you notice at the top of Ober Mountain is the big ice rink in the center of a building surrounded by shops and concessions. Do you think we donned some skates and entered the rink? Yes, we did! Did I fall? I won't say I was the most graceful thing on ice, but I didn't fall. Still, just a couple of laps was enough as the boots were pretty painful. At the far end of the rink sat some bumper cars that moved along the ice. We also got to take them for a spin. Controlling them was a challenge at first, but we had a great time. I wish we could take them onto the entire ice surface. |
The first thing we saw on the other side of the building at Ober Mountain was this ski run. In the off season, this surface allows guests to slide down the mountain on large inner tubes. We each picked up a tube and boarded a conveyor belt to get to the top of the hill. Attendants instructed in the proper posture on the tubes and gave us shoves in turn. Along the sides of the run are large snow producing machines, and I could only imagine how much more fun it would be with a slick snow surface. Nearby was the mountain coaster. Climbing the stairs to the top, we each took turns boarding the single-rider vehicles and coasting to the bottom of the hill. It was a rather peaceful ride around the corners and through the forest. I kept mine going full speed, but would love to have gone slowly to enjoy the scenery. Somehow, I failed to get any pictures. |
On the other side of the yard was the Alpine Slide. This was a concrete track that weaved along another hillside. Halfway up on a ski lift was a stop for this ride. Again, we boarded individual cars and rolled along the track on wheels this time. It wasn't as scenic as the mountain coaster, but it was fun. It was probably time to have lunch by this time, so we headed back in to see what we could find. Unlimited rides for all of these attractions are included in the tickets we bought at Ober Mountain. Though the facilities are a little dated, we thought the price was reasonable for our budget. There are other attractions in the area that compete with Ober Mountain. They are more modern and cost more. |
