I remember the first motel I ever slept in with my parents. We were headed to Denver, Colorado, to possibly tour the national mint. We were caught in a downpour and my parents decided we should not camp in that weather. I was happy to stay in a motel room that night, but we never made it to the mint. Still, after all these years, I am attracted to the idea of being outside for this time of the year. The weather is not too cold and not too hot. Today, we don't have a camp trailer, but we possess a tent, into which we place an inflatable bed, sleeping bags, and a battery-operated fan. | |
Last week we were in Springfield, Illinois, to see what we could see. We finally pitched our tent in the New Salem State Park. Against our nature, we awoke before the sun and listened to the birds as they became more and more active. On a couple of mornings, we heard a flock of geese taking flight over our heads, and one day we were serenaded by the hooting of an owl.
If you get the chance, take your family on a vacation this summer. Get your kids out there - in the fresh air - and build some memories with them.
Experience life.
