From the author's website: When eleven-year-old Thyme Owen’s little brother, Val, is accepted into a new cancer drug trial, it’s just the second chance that he needs. But it also means the Owens family has to move to New York, thousands of miles away from Thyme’s best friend and everything she knows and loves. The island of Manhattan doesn’t exactly inspire new beginnings, but Thyme tries to embrace the change for what it is: temporary. |
Well, here's another book on 2018's Mark Twain Award nominee list - Counting Thyme. It's yet another story about a girl and her family who have to move, this time from California to New York because the girl's brother has a specific form of cancer. The girl struggles with adapting to her new surroundings and insists on not telling anyone her brother is deathly ill (She's afraid of how people will pity her.). All in all, the book is kind of a non-starter for me. I wanted more from the story, but it just never seems to come. I was never as intrigued as the author would have like me to be.
