One student (pictured) just returned from a physical visit to the memorial over the weekend. Her family was in the area, and they stopped by to see and touch history for themselves, spending time in the outdoor space of the memorial and getting to see the symbolic displays for themselves. It is always amazing to see a place for yourself. These days, we're calling it place-based education, and it's something I would love to see more of. Can you imagine if I was able to take students to the places we talk about? How much more meaningful would things be if we could visit Jamestown, Mount Vernon, Fort Ticonderoga, Boston, Philadelphia, Williamsburg, and Yorktown, Oklahoma City? If you happen to be a rich potential-benefactor who can make that happen for us over the next few years, please let me know. |
