| The icy waters of the Delaware River await boats transporting the great General George Washopatomus and his ragtag squads of Dino-Patriots. Last week, it was our turn to cross the Delaware in hopes of surprising Hessian troops in Trenton, New Jersey. First, we had to know how many soldiers a boat would hold. Students designed their own crafts for the test, made prototypes, and finally constructed their own team boats. Pretty soon, on the dark Christmas night of 1776, we were loading the boats. They should be able to hold between 100 and 200 of the little plastic figures in the pictures here. A couple of groups were very successful. This may have been a History lesson, reinforced with Science and Engineering, but more than anything, this was a test of teamwork. One group did a great job of planning the loading of their boat, taking care to methodically line them up in the bottom of the boat before beginning to stack the soldiers into it. |
