Ask Siri to take you to the City Cemetery in Baxter Springs, Kansas, and you will find yourself engrossed in a collection of graves with people who experienced a gambit of American history. This is National Cemetery No. 2 (No. 1 is in nearby Fort Scott.). It was established for Union soldiers of the Civil War. Along with the white grave stones of individuals who served during various wars, beneath the majestic portrayal of a Union soldier standing at parade rest, is the mass grave of a number of Civil War burials. |
Elsewhere in the cemetery are other graves, both modern and old. Take the time to honor these, and you might also discover some people who experienced events about which we usually only read.
