When we visited Dollywood in May, the current festival included a number of topiary displays throughout the park. It reminded me of my trip to Disney World a year ago, where topiaries of their animated characters were part of the spring festival, as well. Clearly, Dollywood outdoes Disney along these lines - something completely unexpected. The Dollywood topiaries were complete, with their Disney counterparts had exposed wires and mesh. Dollywood's main topiary showcased an image of a seamstress sewing a coat of many colors, the theme of Dolly Parton's well-known song by the same name. This display boasts of brightly-colored plants and is surrounded by giant "stained-glass" butterflies that catch the light when your camera is placed in the right position. | Other displays also take advantage of plants of varying colors. The black bears and the raccoons wear contrasting coats. They are whimsical without becoming comical. Another piece sits near the Umbrella Sky display (I'll include those photos on the site soon.). Still another is a set of topiaries to showcase a beekeeper and a few giant bees. |
