Hopefully, this is the last and only time I will ever put SpongeBob in the headline of an article on this website. The innuendo and nature of the cartoon is not something I want to normally promote. That being said, I attended the summer production of the musical version of the popular cartoon, last month, and I was genuinely surprised at the musical quality. As a reviewer, I would be amiss in not mentioning that, even though the songs are individually sound (most of them), the musical selections really do not flow well with one another, and the continuity of the show is compromised with that single fact. Still, we're hear to address that headline. MACIE has blossomed as a performer since those first days in our fourth-grade classroom, during those afterschool sessions of an improvisation club that we had during her year. She really is not apprehensive at all about performing in front of an audience, and she's not afraid to throw herself into any role. |
I was proud to catch up to the fine young lady and her family on the evening of my attendance. Her dad was pleasantly surprised at the quality shift from the middle school productions - where MACIE has a starring role in this spring's Matilda - and a high school production. Admittedly, the improvement is stark. MACIE's sister EMILY, a Hoggatteer entering the fifth grade this fall, says she doesn't want to perform on stage, so we'll see where her interests lie once she hits the high school after four more years.
