But summer break has yet to begin. Get on with it, teachers. Keep teaching. We've got to keep going, keep making progress. How will we catch them up and help them excel if we are so anxious to get to our vacations. The same thing happens when winter break gets closer. Too many stop teaching academic content and just go with seasonal art and content instead. With all of the talk about learning loss due to poor attendance and a pandemic, why not take every opportunity to maintain momentum? If teachers make the content interesting and engaging, we don't need side parties and fluffy activities to maintain joy in the classroom. I am not a party planner, but I can teach and compel my students to want to develop themselves and improve. |
Testing is over for the school year, but there are still weeks of instructional time to come. Too many educators reserve this time for "fun" activities in their classrooms - things that have nothing to do with curriculum or educational content. For students in their classrooms, it becomes a time of less structure, less academics, and little more than anticipation of summer break.
