The logos on the right represent just a portion of the tests/assessments in which students in our class have participated in just the last month. Some of these represent multiple sessions of the test, administered on the same day or over the course of more than one day. For example, during the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test, in April, there were five sessions of the test, spread over four days, and some sessions contain more than one section. Likewise, when we field tested the Smarter Balanced Assessment, last week, there were two sessions. While three sessions of the MAP, and all of the Smarter Balanced Assessment were all about Math, students also took an enVision Math test and the Scholastic Math Inventory. While two sessions of the MAP focused on Reading and Writing standards, students also took the Scholastic Reading Inventory. Additionally, the class responded to three difficult Reading Prompts, wrote three 45-Minute Writings, read three passages aloud to determine their fluency according to the AIMSweb program, and took the Words Their Way Spelling Inventory. |
While tests have long been a part of the American education system, this year has definitely been something of an adjustment for teachers and students. We have worked hard, not only on assessments, but on instruction, projects, and especially citizenship, this year. My hope is that fourth grade has had a positive effect on the future of these Hoggatteers. OAHAAH!
