C.H.AR.GE. II: Introduction and Review

The idea for these lessons is to provide two important support structures for Scripture study:

• Context

• Connections

Connections come in the form of:​

• Personal experiences
• ​Current events

• Other texts
• ​Historical events

​Seven ways that Jesus teaches (Can you think of more?):  

• Parables    
• Questions

• Lecture/Speech
• Visual Aid
• Inspiration of the Holy Spirit

• Personal Example
• Challenge

Can we take the teaching examples of Jesus and apply them to our own Bible classes? 

Which methods do we have access to?  What do these look like?

​In our attempt to better comprehend the Bible, we will lean more heavily into some important areas that reinforce our understanding of Scripture.  Together, these four topics form the acronym for our course (C.H.AR.GE.):

• Culture - including language, clothing, food, and customs
• History - including Scripture and extra-biblical sources
• ARchaeology - including textual and material findings
• GEography - including geology, topography, and cartography

​This section of our study will zoom in on Jewish culture as we learn about the methods of measurement (i.e., calendar, money), as well as trade.

Review
In the first section of our C.H.AR.GE. course, we learned about the topography of the “Holy Land” - the land itself. We learned more about what happened in specific locations of the map, tying everything to history, culture, and archaeology.

We begin the second phase of the course with a quick review of the geography of the land.  Very quickly, let’s look at this map and add the verse references to each of the locations indicated.
