Last Friday, our fourtth graders walked to Irving Elementary School at 32nd and Maiden Lane. After successfully conducting a freeze mob, we "unfroze" and scattered to greet our unsuspecting hosts. Hoggatteers went to work, shaking hands with a firm grip, looking Irving students in the eyes, and conducting real conversations with them - not just shaking and leaving. The excursion to Irving was a reward for good behavior, but this was the real purpose for the visit. I wanted to see my students effectively interacting, questioning and responding, conducting sustained conversations. | |
