During our first week of using Reading Rewards (a short week, from Monday through Thursday), our class logged 3,049 minutes of personal book reading, exceeding the class goal of 2500 minutes (100 per student per week). You can quickly see that half of the class fell below the 100 minute per student target, and that the other half of the class handily made up for the shortfall. Thanks to Reading Rewards, I can easily observe which book each student has chosen, as well as how many pages s/he reads each day. |
We have logged reading time, each day, in order to keep a consistency in the classroom. It's a quick part of our afternoon, but I can already see the benefit to my pupils: they appear to be sticking with there books for longer periods of time. I've even caught them searching for time in which to read, just so they can log it, later in the day. They are certainly off to a good start.
