I will travel to Bentonville, Arkansas, on Friday, to make a presentation about writing. Elm Street Elementary School has invited me to speak to 125 fourth graders about being an author.
I will introduce myself and share my personal journey to being an author, including a reading of my own fourth grade story, written from the point of view of an astronaut's shoe. Then I will show newspapers that I owned, edited, and produced 32 years ago (I know it doesn't seem like I am that old; there is a time-travel explanation for that, but I won't burden you with that right now.). Finally, I will share my published books, relying greatly on the personal experiences that inspired them - primarily the Oklahoma City Bombing of 1995 and the 2011 tornado that struck Joplin. I look forward to seeing the school there, as well as the students and teachers.
