| | No, the French and Indian War was not a war between the French and the Indians. In fact, Native Americans fought on both sides of a war between the French and the British. The Battle of Carillon was the first battle where Natives did not fight with the British, but some did engage the British on the French side of the lines. I found these few when I was at Fort Ticonderoga. They certainly make a lasting impression. |
These also took part in the reenactment of the Battle of Carillon later in the day. It was interesting to see how they interacted with the French troops, though, after a century or two of wavering relationships. During the reenactment, they whooped and hollered in addition to firing their own muskets.
