The first boat tested, named Mary Lou after the boat (and donkey) in the book Holes, held a whopping 78 dinosaurs. The second vessel still held an impressive 68. The third exceeded 100, and one might have thought we had just won the World Series (which, by the way, only involves American teams, but still claims a worldwide award). Other teams still did quite well, but the last team to step up to the stage with their boat - the SS Gourmet 68 (I have no idea where these names came from.) - and shattered all expectations. The class had no idea a team could beat the then-current high score of 122 dinosaurs on a single boat. This team, however, exceeded that score, went on to overcome 150, and finally succumbed to the waters. One hundred seventy-eight dinosaurs perished in the final sinking. And now we really know why dinosaurs are extinct. | |
The plans had been made, discussed, and modeled. The only thing left was to test the final products. Teams made their ways to the aquarium of science for testing. They were amazed at the results.
