Our second dark ride for the World's Fair 2.0 is based on one of our favorite read-aloud books, Petey. Petey was written by Ben Mikaelsen, who has one of the most unique voices in children's literature.
Here is the story of a man named Petey, starting with his birth in the early 1900s and finishing with a mature Petey in the nursing home. Along the way the deformed, Cerebral Palsy patient meet and endears himself to many people. Here is a story that breaks the mold for the type of books typically read by intermediate students. It was interesting to this teacher to see which scenes would be chosen to highlight the sequence of this book. Our Ozobot "people transporter" seemed to enjoy the quick trip around the circuit. |

What amazing students. I felt so honored you chose my book Petey for this wonderful project. I hope someday I can come and speak in your school and meet all of you. I have 10 books published so I hope you continue to read my stories.

Thank you for taking the time to visit the project on our site. We are honored that you have seen our work with your own eyes and taken the time to reply. I personally came to one of your lectures when you published Touching Spirit Bear and were nominated for Missouri's Mark Twain Award. I still remember much of your presentation and have read almost all of your books since then. Petey and TSB are my favorites, and I read them aloud every year. My own writing style in the books I have self-published sometimes reflects your influence.
